Pretty Planners make Planning Pleasant

I am not sure what I would do without my planner! I know a lot of people are techy and use their phones to keep track of their schedules, but I still have to have the paper! I use it for everything–to do lists, meetings, random notes, and so much more! Even when I was a teacher, I was looking for the perfect planner and I know a lot of people use the Erin Condren planner, but I fell in love with Plum Paper Planner! The company has so many different planners and they’re all customizable! I’ve literally used them for last 7 years and have loved every planner!

Then I found the Horacio Planner. And this quite possibly could be the biggest game changer! See the whole time I’ve been using the Plum Paper Planner, I have really wanted Bible Verses to be added in it each week, but the only way to do that was if you manually wrote them in each week. BUT The Horacio Planner has different Bible Verses already printed for each week! So let me tell you all about it!!

Pretty Presentation

I think it was love at first sight! Upon opening the box, the planner is wrapped in tissue paper with a “You Are Loved” sticker (it’s the little details that make this so fun), only to find the planner and some other goodies are wrapped in a canvas drawstring bag!

Opening the little bag, there were far more goodies than I was expecting! It came with the cutest little journal and a matching GOLD ball point pen! The owner of the company includes a little thank you note as well as an option to SAVE THE DATE to set up your planner with others who have also ordered a planner for them. The whole idea is to dream big dreams together!

More than a planner

sBeside a good planner, one of the things I do to help me refocus is sitting down and reflecting on the past and looking ahead to the future. I think through things that have gone great and things I wish to never repeat. I also pray A LOT! I just ask the Lord what He wants from me for the next month or year! Right at the beginning of the planner, it has a perfect section for you to do this very thing! It guides you through a series of questions about “Who do I want to become?” As a believer, I think this is so important! I’ve been reading Nancy DeMoss’ book Adorned and she talks about how we ought to think about the person we want to be in 5, 10, or 50 years. We won’t just wake up one day and be that person, but rather it’s a daily practice. Whoever we want to be in 5, 10, or 50 years STARTS TODAY! We are becoming who we are TODAY!

As you walk through each step, there are verses along the way! And there are QR codes that will link you to a video to even guide you through each step! I’m telling you, this is so cool! The planner is more than just a planner, but really a guide to intentional sanctification!

now about the planning part

Each month begins with a month-at-a-glance, along with a Bible verse! The month is listed from a Sunday – Saturday spread, which is my personal favorite on a way to view the month. There is space in the margin to write additional monthly notes. I should also mention the planner is black, white, and gray. There isn’t in color keeping it right at the basics. I’m used to a colorful planner, so this is a little bit of an adjustment, but it’s a nice tradeoff for the Scripture on every page of the planner!

The weekly view has several different features! On the left side, it includes a new Bible verse each week, a space for your to-do-list, and a dotted section you can use like a bullet planner. On the right side, it is your day-to-day blocks with the dotted section.

Compared to my Plum Paper Planner, this is pretty similar. I’m used to the same layout. However, there isn’t as much space for the to-do list. I’m used to two columns for a to-do list and this one has one column, but with longer lines. For the day blocks, I’m used to lined space instead of dotted space. I’ve never been a huge fan of the dotted journals, but I’m willing to give it a try!

Also, the planner is a hard back, lay-flat book! I’ve had mixed experiences with this style of binding. Sometimes everything works great, and other times I will have little sections of paper fall out because of the lay-flat element. Every planner I have ever used since I was a kid have always been spiral-bound. I learned that I needed a thick coil so it didn’t break, but the thing I haven’t loved about the coil is that part when you hit the coil with your hand as you write. So I am excited that this planner won’t have that piece anymore!

With that said, when using a coil bound planner, I have always used binder clips and paper clips to separate out the months/weeks. But with this planner it includes two different ribbon colors! There’s gray and a white ribbon and you can use one for the month glance and once for the week glance–at least that’s my plan!
